Review of Alberta’s Integrated Land Management policies, practices and legislation
Advancing ILM in Alberta for reduced or restored footprint is important to woodland caribou conservation and recovery. This integrated land management (ILM) review, commissioned by the ARCKP, provides examples of opportunities, gaps and/or barriers in policies, on-the-ground practices and legislation for implementing ILM in Alberta.
Awarded to the Foothills Landscape Management Forum and Dialogue Partners, this project was executed over six months and completed in May 2021. The consultants conducted an extensive literature review and 32 subject matter expert interviews to synthesize ILM practices in Alberta and reviewed and analyzed ILM practices used in other comparable jurisdictions. The report concludes with a detailed set of recommendations for cross-industry ILM approaches for improved woodland caribou habitat.
Identifying challenges and barriers to ILM is an important part of implementing ILM in Alberta. The ARCKP is interested in exploring these challenges and barriers and seeking ways to empower stakeholders to move towards implementing ILM. This report is the first step towards this, and is being closely reviewed by ARCKP committees to determine next steps for the partnership.
